13 / 05 / 13 - Cluster publication a new ACS journal: artwork captured on the front page!

Congratulations to Cluster members Dr Nick Gathergood and Dr Mukund Gharve whose publication on ionic liquids with their colleagues in DCU and Portugal was recently published in the new ACS journal, Sustainable Chemistry and Engineering (Vol 1, Issue 4, pp 393-402). Their artwork was also selected for the journal front cover.

Ionic liquids have an application as an alternative to electrolytes in certain solar cells, but also have applications across a number of fields including organic, physical, and analytical chemistry,biology, and biomass processing. The authors here have identified ionic liquids here that have very low bacterial and algal toxicity, making them biodegradable and a "greener" ionic liquid choice.
