10 / 04 / 13 - Congratulations to Dr Grace Morgan on her recent SFI award

Congratulations to Cluster Investigator, Dr Grace Morgan, UCD School of Chemistry and Chemical Biology on her recent SFI Investigator Project award to study nano-assembly of magnetic and magneto-optical materials.

The proposed work lies at the heart of molecular magnetism and nanotechnology, areas which will underpin the next generation of data storage devices and sensor devices. Control of magnetism at the atomic scale is becoming essential as data storage devices are miniaturized and this is the direction in which industry is moving.Over the next four years SFI will fund her group to address the significant challenges of controlling the magnetic properties of molecules at the atomic scale and to study methods to assemble switchable molecules into processable nano-sized objects and onto surfaces where they can be handled in a facile and economical way.
